In episode 23 of the Root Simple Podcast, Kelly and Erik give an update on their housecleaning habits, read some spam poetry and discuss Randy Fritz’s shoemaking workshop. Some links we mention:
- Wired Magazine’s article on the laborers who moderate social media comments.
- Earth Skills
- Shoe making classes offered by laughingcrowe.com
- Sewing classes at Sew L.A.
- We’ll add a link for Randy’s website when he finishes it–in the meantime, if you’re within striking distance of Santa Barbara and are interested in shoe making lessons, go ahead and shoot us an email at rootsimple at gmail dot com and we’ll hook you up with Randy.

Holy crap, laughingcrowe is based in Portland, OR! I’m so excited. I have to figure out when I’ll have the money to spend on the class, but I really want to make my own pair now!
Oh, Eric, your dramatic readings of the Spam Poetry just totally made my day. The Uggs one was fantastic. 🙂
*Erik. Apologies. I knew something didn’t look right at I typed that.
Thank you Lizzie! And no worries, I answer to all the many spellings of my name.
Oddly enough, I listen to your podcast as I clean and organize the house in the morning before working (I work at home).
Your conversations keep me engaged and connected to a community in this vast (formerly underwater) landscape. In addition, they set a tone for my day the way the radio probably tuned my parent’s generation. As a visual person, it’s a relief to use other senses to engage my often underutilized organ of imagination. Finally, they are the perfect timeframe for my domestic interventions without compromising any analytic opportunities.
Dare I say they’ve made me smarter?
