  1. Now I have to lay hands on some creme de violette. Also, that’s wild about the tunnels. That was one of the highlights for me last week. “What on earth…?” People are up to so many things that I couldn’t begin to imagine!

  2. Here, about tunnels, a reader from Uruguay.

A former president (José Mujica, 2010-2015), famously escaped jail with another handful tupamaros guerilla members through a handmade tunnel. The incident is known as “Fuga de Punta Carretas” and it happened in 1971. (It was a pretty big handful, more than a hundred men escaped).

The jail offices building is currently a shopping center. While holding office he visited the place and quipped, “this is not the first time I enter these gates but it will be the first I go out through them too”.

    Tunnels, great cocktail conversation stuff…

    • Thank you Julia! Love the tunneling anecdotes. I watched that amazing documentary about José Mujica, El Pepe.
