  1. Hey, I want to congratulate Cheryl on her winning. I was also wondering about the pallet composting bin you designed. It was in your book “Making It”. I was wondering if it mattered that the pallets have to be treated or not. Thanks.

    • I would not use treated pallets. They will break down eventually, but the good thing about pallets is that they are free.

  2. Thanks, but is there a way to tell if they’re treated or not? Because I can find them laying around in alleys and such.

    • Not really. But I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Domestic pallets are heat treated–problems in the past have been with imported pallets. For compost, I think you don’t need to worry too much.
