  1. Yes, this certainly is a beautiful house and a snip at $5M! Not too sure about the bay window, which was added some years after the original construction by a different architect. However, if the house were mine, I’m sure I could grow to love it!

    • The house went through some very misguided alterations, especially one in the 1950s that you can read about here. In the 1960s it was even a storage facility with forklifts to moves books around!

  3. Thank you for providing the link to the sad, then happy, history of the Bolton House.

    We live in a 1925 Arts and Crafts house that was “modernized” in the 1960s and we have spent a lot of time and money trying to restore it to its original dignity. We have learned through experience that it is a waste of time trying to fix the poorly designed and poorly executed 1960s work. The only remedy is to strip everything back to the studs and start again. The one exception to this is that we try to retain and repair any lath and plaster walls that are still in a saveable state, which is not always easy!
