The meme is no joke I’m afraid. My elderly mother is firmly in the qanon camp, and my brother whom she lives with is a die-hard, pro-trump, ultra-right-wing Catholic. No safety measures will get through those political filters. They mingle in groups without any concern about contracting the virus. Meanwhile I have no health insurance, and have to figure out how to see my mother without bankrupting myself by getting tested (I’m broke and unemployed). I’m from cental Iowa where half the pop. doesn’t care either, so I’m almost certainly a high risk for exposure. They’re missing that insight I think and forcing me to bear it, no matter how much I burn their ears off trying to make them understand.
And meanwhile I have no health insurance. If my brother’s idiocy gets me sick, then I’m SOL. When do I decide that stupid people have to be cut off?
I’m so sorry Aaron for what you are going through right now. We’ve had to make some family decisions like this but your situation is far worse. I just listened to a podcast featuring a grad student, Marc-André Argentino, who is studying the Q phenomenon. He started out working on Isis and realized that Q would be similar and is right under our noses here in the States. What a nightmare.
I just caught the news that in NYC and i guess Pasadena here too, people’s experiment with dining next to the curb, are literally eating next to rats.
In my family, we have had conversations about which ER we want to be taken to. (We are all still healthy, and being very careful–but who knows)
However, the hospitals in the San Antonio area are filling up, so we may not have a choice.
This is a fascinating book: The Return of the Black Death: The World’s Greatest Serial Killer by Sue Scott and Christopher Duncan.
The stuff of nightmares–especially their predictions for the future.
Not everyone agrees with their conclusions concerning the real origins of the plague, but it’s definitely worth reading.
