College admissions scandal is mere tip of iceberg. One of many ways that the richest perpetuate their wealth despite tax & inheritance laws, & other reforms. Because capitalism produces an inequality that perpetuates itself, we need system change. https://t.co/y3EoSav8Ql

I want a prestige HBO remake of Moby Dick. Six seasons. 10 episodes each. They don’t actually leave on the boat til S3 (at earliest). And a couple times a season, there’s a gorgeously shot hour-long doc that contains literally not a single correct whale fact

Ever wondered why cities like LA and others across the SW have clashing street grids? Spain’s Law of the Indies insisted on the grid being laid out askew from north. When these regions later became American territory the ubiquitous compass oriented grid was introduced pic.twitter.com/EzPa4UD9um

The most dangerous thing in this world is a Puritan who’s broadening his mind. He’s just like a barbarian who’s broadening his empire. More & more things do, indeed, come under his consideration; but this only means more & more things come under his oppressing & depressing power.

K-punk: The Collected and Unpublished Writings of Mark Fisher. This comprehensive collection brings together the work of acclaimed blogger, writer, political activist and lecturer Mark Fisher (aka k-punk). Covering the period 2004 – 2016, the collection will include some of the best writings from his seminal blog k-punk; a selection of his brilliantly insightful film, television and music reviews; his key writings on politics, activism, precarity, hauntology, mental health and popular modernism for numerous websites and magazines; his final unfinished introduction to his planned work on “Acid Communism”; and a number of important interviews from the last decade.

Lots of fascinating reading! I found the meritocracy article frustrating, though, because they do a beautiful job of laying out the problem(s) and say almost nothing about the solutions. I’ve been finding that kind of article or book increasingly more annoying, in part because the author makes it so very clear that something needs to change, getting me all fired up and wanting to do something, but being left with no idea of what to do, especially since so much of what we’ve tried hasn’t been effective.
I loved the Cursed Architecture tweet! I think my productivity is going to be way down this morning thanks to that. 😉
