On the podcast this week I talk to Will of the The Weekend Homestead about fire safety and life on his rural Wisconsin getaway. Will is a former firefighter and avid YouTuber and reached out to me to respond to a post I did on open floor plans and fires. During the podcast we talk about:
- Christmas fire safety–keep that tree watered!
- Smoke detectors
- Fire extinguishers and how to use them
- Common causes of residential fires
- What it’s like to be a firefighter
- Will’s career in fireworks
- Upcoming and ongoing projects: outhouse, solar power, Instapot, apple orchard, and Will’s SKYBOX

The Art and Craft of Wood: A Practical Guide to Harvesting, Choosing, Reclaiming, Preparing, Crafting, and Building with Raw Wood. Where people live, trees live. They provide shade, beautify our neighborhoods, filter our water, and clean our air, but when they die, we often don’t know what to do with them. More and more, that is changing as we learn the skills to reclaim those trees as lumber. Aimed at the woodworking hobbyist or aspiring DIYer, The Art and Craft of Wood introduces readers to the basics of wood craft.
Can you give us an update on your fire? I worry.
Thanks PP for your concern. We are in an urban area a long ways away from the fires. The smoke was horrible, though.
I was an intern in fire department when young guy died in his bed we tried to do cpr and all the stuff it was too late, how the guys dealt with it? Made jokes like it did not touched them at all I was shocked by this lack of emotions. That was my experience what I seen.
