In Birmingham the BJCC sits across from 459, a raised interstate. The Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center has parking underneath the raised 6 lane 459 with parking meters, even, I think. Every time I walk and park there, I am more concerned about brake dust descending on me than I am about dangerous people.
I know homeless people have health problems, but I wonder how much of their health problems are caused by asbestos and other toxins floating down. Of course, I doubt there are many elderly homeless people since other illnesses take them out first.
It would certainly be a bad plan to give children a basketball court in such a toxic environment.
When I rode a bike, I never slung my leg over, I just stepped through. The penny in the skirt seemed like a bad idea unless you did not care about the wrinkles left after the penny came out. Curtain weights sewn in the hem would be a better solution.
If a female or anyone has on a long, full skirt, just reach through the legs, grab the back hem, and tuck it into the waistband in front.
Hadn’t thought about the skirt wrinkles with the penny idea! Good point. But still, a good emergency hack.
In looking at the side-by-side photos of the same, lit highway, I have to say that the LED side strikes me as the easier to navigate. Street lights have always bothered my eyes, even when I was younger and had better eyesight, so I’ve never liked driving at night.
We have replaced nearly all of the light bulbs in the house with LEDs; the husband (an electrician) was quite keen to do this. Frankly, I haven’t noticed much difference except in the power bill, but we do live in the boonies where it’s totally black outside at night, so perhaps we don’t get the full melatonin-destroying effect of LEDs. That said, I won’t use LED Christmas lights on the tree, because they are so harsh – even the so-called ‘soft white’ LED light strings.
