  1. The fire started by the mirror sparked a memory. Somewhere in the early 60s my mother drove a VW bug. For several months, she yelled and screamed that I or my sisters were screwing up her headliner because mysterious brown and sometimes black spots kept appearing. Of course, we all denied any involvement whatsoever. The mystery was finally solved one day when the headliner caught fire. The culprit? The large hand mirror she used to apply makeup, and then left in the bin behind the backseat.

    • Reminds me also of the Frank Gehry designed Disney Hall here in LA. The shiny backside of this curvy metal concert hall was causing a horrible heating effect on a condo tower to the west.

  2. I saw that Guardian study earlier this week. Not good. Glad there are efforts to clean up the giant plastic patch and beaches. And to reduce plastic use in general.

Also, those food processing videos aren’t that different from the Discovery Channel’s How-It’s-Made series, so the author of that article can’t be quite as isolated in his fascination as he implies. Then again, maybe he IS the only one who is reminded of John Holmes when he sees a tomato processing video. That part was moderately disturbing.

That primitive technology blog is pure awesome.

    Nice collection this week. 🙂
