  1. I did not expect the axe porn to be sensual!

When I was about 7, my father made knives. Why? He talked about someone making them when he was young. Nostalgie? To prove something to himself? He was born in 1915 and probably saw this during the Depression. The range of his skills was amazing. It was winter, dark, and cold. I remember him telling my mother about the heat, the glow, the water.

When my brother was a young man, he made several knives. Later, he just sold one at a yard sale. Ten years later at the flea market in Nashville, he came upon his knife, was looking at it closely to ascertain that it really was his. The vendor, trying to sell it to my brother, said that it was found in an old Civil War cabin. I am not sure if that says it was well-made or what.

In my sewing room I do more than sew. So, I suppose it is a craft room even though it has four sewing machines in it, set up and used frequently. A large, antique dining table serves me well. It was so nice the first year to wrap presents and not have to chase bits of paper and snips of ribbon around my kitchen table. Leaving it all behind for later when in a hurry was a luxury.

    Great links.
