UFA supporters at a commission meeting back in March
Local food is coming to Los Angeles. Friday May 21st, the Los Angeles City Council will vote on amending city code to allow growing and selling fruit and flowers within city limits. If you live in the area, the Urban Farming Advocates can use your support at tomorrow’s meeting. From the UFA website:
We will assemble between 11 and 11:30am in the Council Chamber at City Hall.
Friday morning, May 21, 2010
Los Angeles City Hall
200 North Spring St.
Los Angeles, CA 90012
(213) 485-2121
If we’re gonna be called the “land of the fruits and the nuts,” we might as well live up to it! Hope to see some of you downtown tomorrow.
Way to go!
Wish I could have been there- but I’ll sure be happy to do all I can to support this act. This is the sort of grassroots small business activism that will help rebuild our economy from the ground up. 🙂
Would I be able to sell my produce on-site?
Thanks
Kristina
Kristina,
Only if you had only one visitor per hour. The F&FFA made no changes to the home business rules that limit the number of folks that can come by. It would be difficult to change those rules. But, at least, it allows you to sell fruit and flowers at a farmer’s market (vegetables, i.e. “truck farming” were already legal here in LA). The truth is that you probably could sell things on site as long as nobody complains.
Thanks for the info. I’ve been farming my half acre in Northridge for about 2 years now. Still learning what grows well etc.
I’m glad there are folks out there that are getting back to growing.
Again, thanks.
Kristina
